FARMER’S  MARKETS

I grew up on a ranch in southern Alabama, and my grandparents owned a small fruit and vegetable farm across town from our ranch. Every summer, my brother and I practically lived at my grandparents’ farm. We grew and sold truly vine-ripened tomatoes, sun-yellowed squash, and the sweetest blueberries I’ve ever tasted. We never bought corn or peas at a grocery store because we grew it, harvested it, and preserved it ourselves.

When I realized I was moving to Louisville, I was disappointed at the prospect of not having fresh produce at my fingertips. It didn’t take long for me to realize that there are numerous farmers’ markets across the city that can easily take the place of my family’s farm and ranch.
